Government proposes to implement works for first stage of desalination plant in Tseung Kwan O

     For the implementation of the first stage of the proposed desalination plant in Tseung Kwan O, the Government intends to carry out the following proposed works within an area of approximately 2.24 hectares of foreshore and seabed at Joss House Bay:

(i) construction of a submarine intake pipeline of about 250 metres in length and a submarine outfall pipeline of about 350m in length by the trenchless construction method;

(ii) construction of an intake structure and outfall diffusers (dredging of seabed is required); and

(iii) erection of a temporary works area at the end sections of the submarine intake and outfall pipelines to facilitate the construction of the intake structure and outfall diffusers.

     The proposed works are scheduled tentatively to commence in 2018 and to be completed by about 2020.

     The extent of the area affected is described in a notice published today (June 24) in the Government Gazette (www.gld.gov.hk/egazette/pdf/20162025/egn201620253508.pdf).

     The notice together with its related plan are posted on notice boards near the site. The plan can also be seen at the following locations:

* Lands Department Survey and Mapping Office (23/F, North Point Government Offices, 333 Java Road, North Point, Hong Kong) (where copies can be purchased on order);
* Public Enquiry Service Centre of the Sai Kung District Office (G/F, Sai Kung Tseung Kwan O Government Complex, 38 Pui Shing Road, Hang Hau, Tseung Kwan O, New Territories); and
* Lands Department's website (www.landsd.gov.hk) under Government Notices.

     Any person who considers that he or she has an interest, right or easement in or over the foreshore and seabed involved may submit a written objection to the Director of Lands, 20/F, North Point Government Offices, 333 Java Road, North Point, Hong Kong, within two months from the above-mentioned date, i.e. on or before August 24, 2016. The notice of such objection shall describe the interest, right or easement of the objector and the manner in which he or she will be allegedly affected.
