Udaipur: Fear gripped residents of Chheetar-ka-Badal village under the Kelwada police station at Rajsamand after a leopard dragged away a 12-year-old girl who was sleeping beside her parents on a terrace late on Wednesday night.
When the parents found the child missing, they launched a search and found her mutilated remains in the backyard of their home.
As this was the second case of leopard attack this month, villagers directed their anger at the forest department, accusing them of failure in preventing such incidents.
Ravina was sleeping with her father Ranjit Singh and mother on the terrace of their house in the village. After midnight a leopard crept in noiselessly and dragged off the sleeping child. Around 4 am the mother realized Ravina was missing and woke up her husband. The couple found the body lying in the backyard covered in mud.
Pugmarks of the wild cat were visible. Teeth marks were seen on the girl's body which was later shifted to the nearby community health centre for an autopsy. Police and forest department have launched a search operation. The village residents alleged negligence on part of the forest authorities despite being informed about frequent sightings of leopards.
