Maguire last Irishwoman standing

The Curtis Cup star, who scraped through the stroke play qualifying by the skin of her teeth, was in stunning form on day three and will take on Switzerland's Azelia Meichtry in the third match play round this morning.

Maguire, No 2 in the amateur world rankings, started the day with a magnificent 3&2 triumph over Leslie Cloots, who had topped the qualifying stage.

Cloots took an early lead with a birdie three at the second before Maguire levelled proceedings thanks to a par at the eighth.

The Slieve Russell player took the lead for the first time with a birdie three at the 12th before extending her advantage on the following hole after Cloots fired her approach shot into the water.

Cloots slipped up with a three-putt at the 15th which left Maguire three ahead with only three holes remaining - and a half at the 16th sealed the win.

The 21-year-old then crushed France's Anais Meyssonnier 4&3 in the second round.

But Olivia Mehaffey and Chloe Ryan both crashed out in the first match play round.

Royal County Down's Mehaffey, runner-up in the stroke play stage, was two down at the turn in her match with America's Monica Vaughn. She fought back to level the contest on the back nine, but suffered defeat on the first extra hole.

Castletroy's Ryan was beaten 4&3 by Germany's Esther Henseleit.
