Student among 6 held for peddling ganja at Kayamkulam

The operation was carried out following a tip-off.

ALAPPUZHA: The narcotic cell arrested six people, including one student, who were found in possession of 350 gm ganja, from Kayamkulam on Wednesday. According to Mr Ali Akbar, SI, narcotic cell, the arrests were made at Ajanta Junction near Kayamkulam on Wednesday night. They were identified as Shalu, 23, Thulikanayyathu, Ikya Junction, Kayamkulam, Amal, 20, Kunnel, Memana near Oachira, Vishnu, 18, Vattakkavilam Karukachal, Salman, 18, Mannassery, Kayamkulam , Ajmal,18, Kappil, Krishnapuram near Kayamkulam, and a Plus-Two student.

The operation was carried out following a tip-off. The police, in the guise of customers, asked the accused to reach Ajanta for a deal. The police in mufti took them into custody when they came on two motorcycles. During the last one week, at least eight people, including students, were arrested by the special squad of anti-narcotic cell from Kayamkulam area.

Police said that the main target of the pedlars were students of the schools in Pullukulangrara and Kayamkulam areas. The accused were remanded in judicial custody by the Judicial First Class Magistrate Court, Kayamkulam.
