A two-day national seminar on Baba Banda Singh Bahadur: Life and Heritage, dedicated to tricentenary martyrdom celebrations of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur, was inaugurated in the auditorium of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Bhawan of Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU). The seminar is being organised by the Centre on Studies in Sri Guru Granth Sahib in association with the SGPC.
SGPC president Avtar Singh Makkar presided over while Vice-Chancellor AS Brar inaugurated the seminar. Makkar said Baba Banda Singh Bahadur rendered his selfless services to demolish injustice and was the first leader who laid the foundation of Sikh sovereignty. He also gave details about the arrangements made to celebrate the tricentenary of martyrdom of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur by the SGPC. He said more research was needed to be done on Baba Banda Singh Bahadur as well as world famous warriors like Hari Singh Nalwa. He also donated Rs 50 lakh to the GNDU to strengthen more research on Sikh religion.
Prof Brar said the proceedings of the seminar would be published in the form of a book and the university would always encourage this type of activity.
