Under the special sanitation campaign, as many as 34 spots were identified by the district administration for cleaning operations in different parts of Una district.

As per data provided by Deputy Commissioner Yunus Khan, as many as 28 metric tons of degradable waste, 17 tons of paper waste and 55 kg of non-degradable waste material was collected and handed over to the departments concerned for proper disposal.

Khan visited all seven spots identified in Una city and gave necessary directions. He directed the authorities of the district hospital to clean the stores and auction the discarded waste material, besides disposing off old records as per office manual.

He said the pre-monsoon cleaning drive would not only minimize spread of water borne diseases, but also enable speedy flow of rain water into the natural drainage system.

Aditional District Magistrate Rajesh Kumar Maria led the cleanliness drive at the Chintpurni shrine. He said in order to make cleanliness a habit, the local shopkeepers were administered an oath on promoting sanitation.

He said the devotees were also made aware against littering and a signature campaign was undertaken in which about 8,000 devotees, who paid obeisance at the temple, participated.

School holds seminar

Nurpur: Government Senior Secondary School, Rehan, Nurpur, celebrated Swachhata Divas on Thursday in which declamation contest and a seminar on sanitation were organised. The principal of the school exhorted the students to keep their surrounding neat and clean. The members of the NSS unit of the school cleaned the school campus.

In Nurpur, this day was organised under the guidance of SDM Rakesh Prajapati. The Chogan Stadium Ground was cleaned with the assistance of safai karamcharis of the municipal council.

73 spots cleaned

Chamba: As many as 73 spots in Chamba district will be cleaned during a pre-monsoon cleanliness drive launched by Deputy Commissioner Sudesh Mokhta today.

The DC said awareness rallies would also be taken out by schoolchildren.

Overwhelming response in Shimla

Shimla: A massive cleanliness drive launched at the initiative of Deputy Commissioner, Shimla, Rohan Chand Thakur, here on Thursday evoked overwhelming response from the employees and people and tons of garbage was disposed of. The drive was launched in offices, markets and localities. Huge quantity of garbage was collected from offices and adjoining areas and choked drains were cleaned to allow free flow of water during the rains. People in large numbers collected and segregated the solid waste. The employees of the state Secretariat, DC office, Shimla Municipal Corporation and other government and semi-government offices, joined by NGOs, Panchayati Raj Institutions and Urban local Bodies representatives, Mahila Mandals and Yuvak Mandals and local people started the drive at 7 am. Shun polythene: Hamirpur DC  

Hamirpur: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Madan Chauhan along with hundreds of students and residents of the town launched a cleanliness drive under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. Addressing the participants, the DC said teachers and parents must inculcate the habit of cleanliness in children. He said hygiene was the key to good health. Students from a number of schools participated in an awareness rally organised on the occasion. Somdatt Sankhyan, Deputy Director, Secondary Education, was also present. Addressing a press conference, the DC said polythene was a major hurdle in keeping environment clean and people should refrain from consuming non-degradable material. OC
