Kerala SHRC writes to Karnataka SHRC to ensure justice to ragging victim
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In a heinous ragging case at a private nursing college at Gulbarga in Karnataka, wherein a 19-year old Dalit girl student was allegedly ragged by her seniors forcing her to drink toilet lotion that burnt her internal organs, Kerala State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has approached Karnataka SHRC chief to intervene and ensure justice to the victim who is battling for life.

The Kerala SHRC has sought Karnataka SHRC to direct the Karnataka police to bring the culprits to book. Now, Karnataka police has intervened and have begun their enquiry into the case.
Kerala SHRC judicial member P Mohandas had got in touch with Karnataka SHRC chief by email. Kerala SHRC has also written to Gulbarga Nursing College principal and manager for their intervention to bring justice to the victimised girl student of their college. Commission member Mohandas also indicates in his letter that the condition of the girl is critical. He also indicates in his letter that the First Information Report (FIR) in the case registered by Kozhikode police has been handed over to the Karnataka police.
It was on May 9, that the girl student in her first semester nursing course at a private College of Nursing in Gulbarga was allegedly forced by her seniors to drink toilet lotion. Following which, she was admitted to a private hospital in Gulbarga and after five days her condition deteriorated, she was sent home with another Keralite student. She was admitted to Thrissur Medical college hospital and after a few days she was referred to Kozhikode medical college hospital on June 2. The doctors have now suggested a surgery as her internal organs including the food pipe are burnt that she cannot take food as it gets puked and she is put on intra-venous fluids in the intensive care unit (ICU).
