GOP rep: Democrats trying to ‘take away people’s civil rights’

Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) early Thursday blasted Democrats’ gun control sit-in, accusing participants of exploiting tactics from the civil rights movement to “try to take away people’s civil rights.”

{mosads}“So they weren’t just standing up for rights, they were taking away rights,” Gohmert said on “Fox and Friends.”

“It was incredible to see real American folk heroes like John Lewis who were brutalized and stood up for civil rights,” he added.

“Folks were there using the instruments that helped gain civil rights to try to take away people’s civil rights.”

During the sit-in, Gohmert was seen getting in a shouting match with Democrats on the House floor.

“Radical Islam killed these people,” he yelled, pointing to posters with photos of gun violence victims.

Democrats drowned him out, chanting, “No bill, no break.”
