Hearing of the murder of Hope Zinde was very sad indeed.
Worse still, that she was allegedly killed by her own son, apparently in a fit of drug induced anger.
This is not an isolated incident, as we hear and read about similar occurrences quite frequently in the news.
I remember vividly how a witness in the Taliep Petersen murder trial testified how fearful and disappointed he was when he realised that Taliep’s wife was an accomplice in his murder.
Parents whose kids are on drugs have a serious problem.
A few years ago Jackson Mthembu poured his heart out during a local radio station programme, claiming that it seemed the only time he will ever see his son again, would be the latter lying in coffin.
He must have been deeply hurt to utter such words.
He must have done all other parent do before writing their kids off.
Drugs are a worldwide phenomenon, not unique to South African.
Parents should be realistic about the fact that their kids are on drugs and should not be naive and think that what happened to Zinde will not happen to them.
This might be a hard pill to swallow but it is a fact we cannot ignore.
To make sure that your drug addict kids don’t kill you, make them aware that they won’t inherit an iota of your property if they are still on drugs on your death, regardless of the cause/s.
Rather bequeath your money and possessions to other family members or charities than to leave them for an undeserving drug-taking child.
