The SS 2016 Tommy Hilfiger runway show was a celebration of crochet and focused in particular on the bikini. The crochet bikini takes us back to the 70s and to handmade pieces that conquered beachwear with their folk vibe, and today with their folk-retro feel.

The classic style features a triangle bra, like the green one worn a few days ago by Victoria Secret’s Angel Candice Swanepoel who posted a picture on Instagram showing her baby bump and her “baby on board”, writing “Getting the Tum in the sun”.

Some styles turn into out-of-the beach garments, thanks to wider bandeaus that recall Californian tops, to wear with frayed jeans, while others evoke a stunning Jane Birkin on South of France beaches, teamed with miniskirts or hippie-style cover-ups.

Crochet is so charming and it’s time to embrace it with new styles, from classic to couture pieces. Some designers mix materials together: Kiini finish their Lycra bikinis with classic stitching. And if you still haven’t found what you are looking for in this gallery, try your hand with thread and a crochet hook!
