Elder sister Akanksha Singh, the captain of National Women’s Basketball Team played cupid for ace basketball player, Pratima Singh who got engaged to cricketer Ishant Sharma, on Sunday in Delhi. “I met him for the first time in Delhi when he was invited for a basketball tournament organised by my sister. On knowing him better I realised that he is a gem of a person who cares about people and the best part was that we share a passion for the game,” says Pratima who is the youngest among the four famed ‘Singh Sisters’ of Basketball, who hail from Varanasi.
Telling us more about her fiancé whom she began dating three years ago, Pratima says, “It’s not just sports which runs common between Ishant and me.
Both of us are the youngest in the family and thoroughly pampered, but at the same time, we love our families greatly and give them priority.” However, the pretty athlete goes on to add, tongue-in-cheek, “I am the humorous among the two of us and love cracking jokes and pulling leg of others.”
Despite being more introvert of the two, it was Ishant who popped the question. “He proposed to me rather than it being other way round,” says Pratima.
Getting married to a cricketer has its share of pressures as one is under constant media scrutiny but Pratima says that she is unperturbed by this. “Even I have had my share of being in the limelight. Being an international basketball player and having an excellent career span I have enjoyed a lot of limelight so I know how to handle this,” she says.
Marriage, as the buzz is, is expected to happen at the end of year, though the sportswoman is not revealing the date. “Not much will change regarding my commitment to sports even after marriage. We both know and understand how to maintain a balance between career and relationship. I have always been great in time management, the reason I could play for so many years for the nation. This will not change even after marriage. My duty towards the nation will not be kept aside no matter what,” she says.
