Jazz up your wardrobe with pop colours, printed fabrics and light footwear (that’s not just trendy but easy to wash too) for monsoon, say Delhi-based designers. Take a cue from these fashion tips for the rainy season.

You love them, you hate them but you can’t ignore them. The rains are here. With pitter-patter raindrops falling on your head, it’s time to pack away those stilettoes, leather shoes, sheer tops and pastel-coloured shirts. Out come those waterproof sandals, capris and colourful umbrellas.

No matter how careful we may have been, all of us, at some point or the other, have reached school/college or office flaunting those not-so-welcome splash marks, thanks to racing vehicles on pothole-ridden roads. But that shouldn’t make you resort to dull and boring outfits.

Best is to wear cotton malmal ka kurta with parallel (three-quarter pants). Opt for colours like white, yellow and pink in cotton fabric. Wear soft cotton shoes as it’s muddy outside and these are washable. Humidity can make your hair go frizzy. A neat bun or a ponytail or a braid is a great way to keep it under control,” says Reynu Taandon.

Don’t wear sheer clothes, wear ankle trousers. Go for converse shoes because it is trendy and comfortable and works well with the weather, for this weather thick and breezy fabrics are the best. Long trousers are a no-no as they get dirty on your way to work. You could get them altered. Match your umbrellas with your clothing. When shopping for raincoats online, consider picking umbrellas that could be teamed up with those, says Nikhita Tandon.

Printed cotton fabrics and scarves are doing the rounds. For clothing, keep the denims aside as they usually take a long time to dry. For the humid weather, chambray dresses and flowy maxis are a good idea as these are trendy as well as comfortable, says Rina Dhaka.

Wear loose clothes, as relaxed clothing will be perfect on a hot day as well as on a rainy day when humidity might be high. Avoid leather shoes lest you should spoil them. May sound obvious, but white colour isn’t a good idea because your pristine whites might get spoilt, says designer Dhruv Vaish.
