Ahmedabad: Gulbarg massacre convicts lodged in Sabarmati Central Jail have gone on hunger strike, according to their family members. They have alleged that the 22 convicts are not being given proper food and water, and being kept in three different small barracks in the jail.
However the jail authorities said the allegations are baseless and that no Gulbarg convict lodged in the jail is on hunger strike.

"We have checked, and the allegations made by convicts' family members are false and baseless," said jail SP Sunil Joshi.
Meanwhile, on conditions of anonymity, a convict's daughter said that right from the first day of their incarceration, the convicts are not being given enough drinking water. Another convict's relative said the food given to them is full of stone particles and inedible.
"Sometimes, even poisonous insects and snakes are found in the barracks. The jail authorities did not consider their complaints and hence they have decided to go on a hunger strike. They are not going to end the strike unless their demands are met," said a person whose relative had been convicted in the case.
