Olivia Mehaffey strolled into the knockout stages of the British Ladies Open Amateur Stroke-Play Championship over the Dundonald links in Ayrshire.

The 18-year-old Royal County Down player shot a one-under-par 71 for a 36-hole aggregate of 145 - three strokes behind leading qualifier Leslie Cloots (Belgium), who will meet Leona Maguire this morning.

Leona took the last qualifying spot after shooting a 79 that included two double-bogeys and three bogeys over the last three holes.

Twin sister Lisa missed out by five shots after a disastrous 80. Paula Grant also fell by the wayside, but Chloe Ryan made it after posting a 77 for 155.

Meanwhile, Rowan Lester led the way for Ireland in the first qualifying round of the English Open Stroke-Play Championship for the Brabazon Trophy.

The Hermitage man fired a two-under-par 70 despite dropping strokes at two of the last three holes. That left him four strokes behind Australian Cameron Davis who had six birdies in an inward half of 31.

Alex Gleeson, who had an eagle and a birdie over the last four holes, John Galbraith and Colin Fairweather all shot 71.
