Vadodara: Police inspector, Rahul Patel, who has been booked for cheating and criminal conspiracy, has gone missing. Investigating officials said that Patel has switched off his mobile phone and is absconding along with the other four accused.
"We have begun investigations in the case but Patel is missing. Search is on for Patel and other accused, but we are yet to trace their location," said ACP, Yashpal Jaganiya who is heading the investigations.
The police said that the disappearing act indicates involvement of Patel in the case registered against him. Patel was accused of using his position to threaten the complainant Ratilal Patel and forced him to sell land worth crores of rupees to the accused.
Ratilal approached the police after the accused didn't pay up Rs 17 crore towards the land deal. Patel, who was shunted from the crime branch to the traffic department, was later suspended from the duty as he didn't turn up to face the investigations.
