LONDON. — Colchester United have agreed a new two-year contract with Macauley Bonne. It ties the Zimbabwean international to the Weston Homes Community Stadium until the summer of 2018.

He was pleased the deal was done, allowing him to concentrate on the upcoming build-up to the season.

“It’s a bit of a weight off my mind and I’m pleased it was sorted out over the summer.

“We start back for pre-season next week so I can fully focus on getting fit and then cracking on with the new season.”

Bonne has scored 13 goals in 62 appearances for the U’s, but that record doesn’t really do him justice as he has only started twenty two matches.

Sixteen of those starts came last season and the 20-year-old wants to better it this time round.

“I did get a good few starts and scored a few goals last season but I’m looking forward to getting more this season.”

“The club pulled me in after the season finished and said that I had worked hard and deserved this new contract and it was an easy decision to sign – I was more than happy to continue my time here.” — Sky Sports.
