June 19 has a special place in filmmaker Jagadesh Daneti’s heart as last year it was on the same date that his directorial debut ‘Tippu’ hit the screens. This year, he received the best debut director on the same date. Instituted by the Vizag Fans Association and Telugu Cine Lovers Association, the award was given to him by HRD Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao on Sunday in the port city.
Though Tippu failed to set the cash registers ringing at the box office, the movie earned enough fame for the director. In an interaction with The Hindu , Jagadesh shares what it means to be a part of the filmmaking, challenges faced and future projects.
The filmmaker says the process of direction has given unique experience. “From handling the team to canning the low-budget flick well in advance, Tippu gave me new exposure that helped me brush my directing skills. However, the real challenge lies in execution without any involvement of a third party as it dilutes the essence of the story,” says Jagadesh who likes to portray myriad shades of love in his upcoming projects.
“Love is an essential ingredient in everyone’s life. For me, love makes me feel alive and connected. Most of my future projects are based on this strong emotion that binds people, transcending barriers,” says the writer-turned-director who has been groomed by ace directors Gautham Menon and Puri Jagannadh.
Future projects
Very soon, Jagadesh is all set to venture into multi-lingual projects. “Apart from a Telugu flick with Victory Venkatesh and two Hindi films that I am planning to take care of the story, screenplay, dialogues and direction, a Bengali film with Parambrata Chatterjee is on the cards. There are also a couple of untitled movies in the pipeline that I intend to work with the Bengali hero, introducing him to South Indian cinema.”
The director believes in giving an opportunity to fresh talent and those who are passionate about acting and technical aspects of filmmaking can communicate through the email id: jcinemas.org@gmail.com.
