Man killed by speeding vehicle

P. Kandhasamy (65) of Negamam was knocked down by a speeding vehicle on Tuesday afternoon.

The Negamam Police said the accident took place on Pollachi-Palladam Road. The victim sustained serious injuries and died on the way to the Pollachi Government Hospital. The Police have registered a case in this connection.

Woman robbed

V. Amutha of Maniyakarankadu on Tuesday lost her gold chain weighing five sovereign to her relative Prabhu, who, the Mettupalayam Police said, along with a friend pushed her onto the bed, gagged and then cut her chain using a knife.

He also threatened her with dire consequences if she were to reveal the incident.

In the process of trying to save the chain, Amutha sustained cut injuries on her neck.

Prabhu also locked the house from outside and fled the place on a motorcycle. Amutha threw open a plate through the window to grab neighbour’s attention.

They rushed to her help and got her admitted to the Mettupalayam Government Hospital. Later, she lodged a complaint with them, the Police said and added that they registered a case and were on the lookout for the accused.

Three arrested

Karunya Nagar Police have arrested P. Rangavel (31), A. Rajkumar (23) and M. Muthukumar (23) – all from Dindigul district, on charges of rioting. The Police said that at their worksite in Duraisamy Layout in Thompilipalayam on Siruvani Main Road, the three picked up a quarrel and assaulted a few persons on Monday last. Based on a complaint from one of their co-workers, B. Ranjithkumar (19) the Police arrested the three.

Child dies of burns

Three-year-old Udayprakash, son of Nandhini, died of burns he sustained after he toppled a vessel with boiling water in Ukkadam on Tuesday. The Big Bazaar Street Police said that while Nandhini (26) was busy cooking, the boy toppled the vessel. The boy was rushed to a hospital but he died there.
