Deputy Commissioner SS Phulia has directed the owners of business establishments, banks, malls, hotels, educational institutes, and factories to install CCTV cameras in 15 days to check untoward incidents. AAP to hold protest 

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) will organise a protest here on June 25 and gherao the house of Social Welfare Minister Kavita Jain against the state government’s move to revise the provisions for old-age pensions on the economic basis. This was stated by district AAP president Vimal Kishor while addressing the media here on Wednesday. AAP state president Naveen Jaihind would lead the protests, he said. TNS

Four arrested for gambling 

The police arrested four persons on the charge of gambling at a public place here today. The police also recovered Rs 8,100 and a pack of playing cards. Sources said the police got atip-off that four persons were gambling in green belt of HUDA Sector19. The accused have been identified as Tara Chand, Shahi Ram , Pawan Kumar and Subhash. They have been booked under Sections 13, 3, 67 of the Gambling Act.  OC

Councillors take oath 

Out of 31 elected councillors, 28 councillors, including ten women, took the oath of office at the Municipal Council office in the presence of SDM Narinder Pal malik here on Wednesday. The remaining three could not reach in time and would take the oath on June 27. OC

Newborn found in sack 

A newborn was found abandoned in a sack with multiple dog bites near a roadways workshop at Ambala City on Wednesday. The police took the baby boy to the Civil Hospital here. Chief Medical Officer Vinod Gupta said: “The baby is premature. It seemed that he was bitten by stray dogs. He was in a critical condition when brought here. He has been referred to the PGIMS, Chandigarh.” TNS

2 held for molesting minor

The police have arrested two youths — Manish and Sunny of Kotra village — on the charges of attempted  molestation and eve-teasing a minor girl. Both were sent in judicial custody by a local court on Wednesday. The accused reportedly barged into the victim’s house on June 2 and tried to molest her. However, they fled the spot when the victim’s grandmother raised an alarm. OC

Heroin worth Rs 5 cr seized

The police have seized 1kg heroin worth Rs 5 crore from seven persons in Bahadurgarh town of the district. SP Jashandeep Singh Randhawa said the drug was seized on a tip-off on Tuesday night. The accused had brought the drug from Uttar Pradesh in a Maruti Alto car, the SP added. TNS
