The alertness shown by two traffic constables saved the life of a 19-year-old engineering student, who was hit by a speeding biker on Palm Beach Road recently. The policemen rushed the teenager to hospital, ensuring he got treatment within the crucial golden hour.

NAVI MUMBAI: The alertness shown by two traffic constables saved the life of a 19-year-old engineering student, who was hit by a speeding biker on Palm Beach Road recently. The policemen rushed the teenager to hospital, ensuring he got treatment within the crucial golden hour.
The boy was discharged from hospital last week. It was on June 4 that Pratikshit Sareen, a resident of NRI-Seawoods Complex, had been run over by a speeding bike.
The alert traffic cops – police naik Sanjay Kamble (43) and Rahul Panhalkar (30) – are attached to Seawoods traffic unit.
Panhalkar said that they rushed to the spot and found the biker had bruises on the body but Pratikshit was lying motionless and bleeding profusely. “His limbs were stiff. A car stopped by to help and constable Kamble got the biker, whose identity is not known, and Pratikshit in and drove them to DY Patil Hospital in Nerul while I followed the car on my bike.”
The teenager. who had slipped into a coma due to grievous skull injuries, could be saved as he was taken to hospital within 10 minutes – the “crucial golden hour” and put on ventilator. He was moved to a multi-speciality hospital in Vashi.
Deputy commissioner (traffic) Arvind Salve has recommended the policemen to the commissioner for felicitation on Independence Day.
Pratikshit’s father, Sandeep, said: “I have no words to thank these policemen who saved my son’s life.”
