Caroline Wozniacki too strong for Sam Stosur at Eastbourne International

Updated

Sam Stosur's grasscourt campaign has got off to a disappointing start less than a week before Wimbledon with the world No.16 losing 6-2, 6-1 to Caroline Wozniacki in the second round of the Eastbourne International.

Stosur, seeded seventh for the traditional final hit-out before the third grand slam of the year at the All England club, hadn't played since her French Open semi-final defeat to Garbine Mugurunza.

Former world No.1 Wozniacki is on the comeback trail following an ankle injury that forced her out of Roland Garros but was playing in her third grasscourt event in as many weeks.

The benefit of that experience showed as the Dane strolled to victory in 68 minutes.

At the Nottingham Open, sixth-seeded American Steve Johnson ended Australian John Millman's campaign 6-2, 6-2. Top seed Kevin Anderson beat Ivan Dodig 6-3, 6-7 (5-7), 6-3, with Damir Dzumhur eliminating the defending champion Denis Istomin 1-6, 7-6 (7-4), 6-4 and then lost a few hours later to Vasek Pospisil 6-1, 6-4.

Other winners included Sam Querrey, Alexandr Dolgopolov, Andreas Seppi, Gilles Muller and Marcos Baghdatis.
