Filmmaker Q makes the cut for Kiran Rao
The filmmaker's new sex comedy, Brahman Naman, that represented India at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year is set to be screened at a premiere hosted by the MAMI Film Club on June 27.
While filmmaker Q's directorial debut, G*ndu, was banned in India, his next, Brahman Naman, is gearing up for a June 27 premiere at an Andheri multiplex as part of a screening hosted by the Jio MAMI Film Club.

"We are very excited about Brahman Naman, which was one of the few films to have represented India in the World Cinema Dramatic Competition section at Sundance (Film Festival) earlier this year. We've been keen to watch it ever since we got to know about it. We screened Q's Ludo at MAMI's After Dark section last year.
He has been doing some interesting work for quite a few years now. We are fortunate to partner with Netflix and premiere this film in India for our MAMI Film Club members," MAMI chairperson and filmmaker, Kiran Rao informed Mirror.

Written by Naman Ramachandran, the film will be available as a Netflix original starting July 7 and features Titli actor Shashank Arora in the lead with Tanmay Dhanania and Chaitanya Varad. The cast also includes Vaiswath Shankar, Sindhu Sreenivasa Murthy and Sidharth Mallya. Well known as one of India's most provocative indie filmmakers, Q's latest outing is a nerdy sex comedy.
Given the censorship issues in India, the film might never see the light of day here. "It is releasing on Netflix and the good thing is that audiences all over can see it just as the filmmaker intended it to be seen. We are happy to say that the only censor is quality at MAMI!" Kiran asserts.
The club recently hosted an interaction between British thespian and The Lord of Rings actor, Ian McKellen, and Aamir Khan. Without revealing much about her plans for the Mumbai film festival's 2016 edition, Kiran says that it is definitely going to be bigger and better than before. "We will hold a curtain raiser on this year's highlights not long from now, so watch this space!"
