If you were a football fan during the 2000's, the names of David Villa, Frank Lampard and Andrea Pirlo will definitely ring a bell.
All are distinguished players who are regarded as legends in their own right. Villa was instrumental in Spain's 2010 world cup winning team, Lampard played a key role for Chelsea when they won the English premiership in 2004-05, 2006-07, 2009-10 and also when they won the Uefa Champions league in 2011-12.
Pirlo was a key player for AC Milan during their era of domination in the 2000's. He was also a pivotal member of Italy's world cup winning 2006 team.
Though both Lampard and Villa retired from international football after the 2014 world cup, Andrea Pirlo has not officially retired from international football. He reversed his original decision to retire from international football after the 2014 world cup and has represented Italy as late as last year.
He had hoped to be a part of Antonio Conte's Italy squad for Euro 2016, however Conte left him out of the squad citing that he plays in America's major league soccer which is not as competitive as European elite leagues.
Nevertheless all three players were on the scoreboard this past Saturday as their club New York City FC recorded a 3-2 victory over Philadelphia Union in Major League soccer. Their club lies in second position of the MLS Eastern Conference behing Philadelphia. This match also ended Philadelphia's eight match unbeaten streak.
Lampard opened the scoring in the eigth minute in his first start of the season. Villa netted his 11th goal of the season in the 21st minute and Pirlo converted a trade mark freekick for his first MLS goal in the 50th minute.
Roland Alberg scored for Philadelphia in the 55th minute from a penalty and Fredric Brilliant's own goal made it 3-2 in the 88th minute after Jason Hernandez of New York City FC was sent off for a second yellow card three minutes earlier.
