Nashik: The Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS) and Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University (YCMOU) celebrated International Yoga Day not only at their headquarters, but also through the affiliated colleges.
Both the universities resolved to introduce courses related to Yoga in the coming sessions.
"We have taken the initiative by introducing a one-year fellowship on Yoga for doctors.
It has received great response as 100 doctors from across the state have already registered for it. The university is in the process of framing a two-year diploma course on Yoga which will be implemented from the 2017-18 academic session," said Dr Dileep Mhaisekar, vice-chancellor of MUHS.
At present, a fellowship course in Yoga therapy is being implemented by the MUHS in collaboration with Kaivalya Dham of Lonavala and Yog Vidya Gurukul of Nashik.
"Diploma in Yoga teaching is being implemented through our school of health sciences since May 2012. It is a job-oriented course which has benefited many individuals over the years. More than 450 students have enrolled for the diploma in the present academic session," said a senior YCMOU official.
YCMOU's vice-chancellor Dr Manikrao Salunkhe said the university had conducted an essay competition for the students of the diploma course this year. "More than 70 students participated in the competition. Winners were invited and felicitated," he added.
