10 Actors Who Had Flop Debuts But Went On To Become Bollywood's Super Stars!

They are the creme de la creme of Bollywood today and have billions riding on their backs at the box office. But success didn't come easy to them, despite some of them having Godfathers and a filmy background. But call it lady luck or hard work, these actors kept going and carved a niche for themselves in Bollywood.

Check out these stars who had a terrible debut, but went on to strike gold in the hearts of the fans post their debuts.

1. Ranbir Kapoor

The only thing that we remember from his debut film Saawariya is his towel act and the remaining "blue-film" (if you know what I mean) is nothing but a haze. Thankfully, Ranbir played his cards well and erased the memory of the Sanjay Leela Bhansali film soon after its release. Thank god he picked Bachna Ae Haseeno as his second film. He is one of the most bankable actors today. We loved his Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani, Rockstar, Tamasha and the super adorable, Barfi!

2. Shraddha Kapoor

I'm sure you don't remember her first film. No, it wasn't Aashiqui 2. It wasn't Luv Ka The End too. She made her debut opposite Amitabh Bachchan in Teen Patti. The film went in drains, and Shraddha had to rework her career to make a mark. She returned romancing Aditya Roy Kapoor and swept our hearts. She is not just a pretty face with good acting skills but also has a fab voice. Juts listen to her "Sab Tera" from Baaghi and you'll know what we are talking about.

3. Salman Khan

His stardom has no limits at present. But Salman has had his share of struggles, despite being the son of renowned screen writer Salim Khan. He debuted as a supporting actor in Biwi Ho To Aisi and all we saw from the film is a small clip of him madly dancing on the bed. His second film became his first solo blockbuster. They call it Maine Pyar Kiya, and we call the rest, as history!

4. Kareena Kapoor

She was barely 19 when she debuted with Refugee. But the film couldn't save the grace for her. Blame it on her co-star or the sloppy script. But she did remind us of her sister Karisma a lot. Asoka, K3G and Chameli followed as did Kareena's evolution as a performer. Her finest till date, being Jab We Met and Omkara.

5. Emraan Hashmi

He is one man who has grown in his acting to extremes. From being a serial kisser to delivering heartfelt performances in The Dirty Picture, Awarapan and Azhar, Emraan has proved his mettle. But did you know Murder wasn't his debut. It was actually Footpath. He played a gangster who died. The film also starred Bipasha Basu. But it was a big flop!

6. Amitabh Bachchan

It took the Shahenshah, 7 films until he hit the bull's eye. His forgettable debut happened among six other actors in Saath Hindustani. However, he kept singing films until Zanjeer and Deewar happened making him the "angry-young-man" of Bollywood. His stardom today needs no further explanation. He represents Indian cinema globally.

7. Sonam Kapoor

saawariya

dekhduniya

Her case was no different than Ranbir. She too had a starry debut with Saawariya, but her first tryst with Bollywood failed miserably. We don't remember anything about her from the film except the bridge where she kept on waiting for her lover (Salman) for 3 hours! At least her fashion statement and being Anil Kapoor's daughter kept her in the news. There were some directors who managed to show confidence in her acting skills! Raanjhanaa and Khoobsurat gave her some footing. Then Neerja happened, and she successfully shut all her critics with a powerful performance. She is definitely in the running for the Best Actress Award this year.

8.  Aditya Roy Kapoor

He left us drooling with his chiseled body and mysterious acting in Fitoor. He was also the perfect friend material in YJHD. And all this after a failed debut in London Dreams and even a bigger failure in his second film Action Replay. We wonder what if Aashiqui 2 didn't happen to him, where would he be today!

9. Rekha

Bollywood's eternal diva was once an unknown face. On paper, her debut was as a child artist in 1966 Telugu film Rangula Ratnam, but it took her a long list of movies until she made her mark. Her looks in the initial films are shocking too. However, she revamped her career, had a make-over and became what she is today! Her film Ghar, Khoobsoorat, Umrao Jaan and Silsila are as much a blockbuster as her alleged relationship with Amitabh Bachchan.

10. Katrina Kaif

Imagine, if Salman hadn't become the wings behind Katrina, she would still have remained stuck in the shadow of her flop debut. Ironically, even the film was called Boom! Two years later, her second Hindi film Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya resurrected her career. Though for many, she still is a synonym of a beautiful face, and less on acting. But it's a fact she is one of the most successful actresses today.
