On the third Anniversary of the gruesome Kedarnath floods, President Pranab Mukherjee is visiting Uttrakhand today. Mukherjee will be paying his obeisance at Kedarnath Dham of Rudrpryag district today.
In 2013, Uttrakhand was hit by excessive rains and cloudburst, causing major damages to life and property. Holy shrines Badrinath and Kedarnath were worse hit. Over 70,000 people were struck due to the continuous flashfloods and landslides.
In what was termed as the ”Worst natural disaster since Tsunami”, over 5000 were announced dead, while many went missing.
The tragedy hit Uttrakhand and its tourism acutely, destroying dams, bridges, road routes and pilgrimage places. India had to seek help from ADB and World Bank.
