LAHORE: The Civil Society Network (CSN) Sunday revealed that violence against women increased 17 percent in the first six month of current year as compared to previous year. In a press statement, CSN President Abdullah Malik strongly condemned the honour killings of women in Punjab, demanding the Standing Committee on Women’s Rights in Punjab Assembly to take notice of increase in violence against women. “The killing of women for honour is a barbaric act and against the Islamic and national laws,” he said, adding that violence against women has increased as the accused are not punished under the law. He said that the Punjab government had failed to control violence against women. He urged the judiciary to take sou motu action against the cases of honour killings. Abdullah said that the government should take strict action and design a policy to control the violence against women.
