Ranchi: Chief secretary Rajbala Verma on Tuesday directed Jharcraft to produce uniforms for students of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya, Netarhat Vidyalaya and other government residential schools in the state.
In a review meeting with Jharcraft and industry department officials, Verma asked Jharcraft to re-brand itself. She also directed Jharcraft to place 'make in Jharkhand' tags on blankets and bed sheets they produce.

Verma directed industry department officials to envisage a plan to increase blanket and uniform sales, as well as other Jharcraft products.
It was decided in the meeting that Jharcraft will produce around 7 lakh blankets before Durga Puja. To meet the target, 100 more handloom centres will be established in the state. Presently, there are around 150 handloom centres that produce blankets.
Industry department officials said around 240 weaving looms are used to produce bed sheets, of which 116 are active and produce 8,700 bed sheets in 25 working days every month. "Once additional handlooms are operational, production is expected to increase to 18,000 per month," said an official.
Verma urged Jharcraft to produce bed sheets in different colours for hospitals, one colour for each day of the week.
"Branding sarees produced by Jharcraft should be assured and letters and brochures regarding the same should be sent to embassies of various countries," said Verma.
