LHC orders release of 24 kiln workers

LAHORE - The Lahore High Court yesterday ordered to release 24 persons including kiln workers and families from the illegal detention of a landlord of Mandi Baha-ud-Din. The court also ordered police to take action against the landlord on the application of the detainees. As the hearing commenced, a bailiff appointed for the recovery of the detained bounded laborers produced the detainees before the court. Nazir Ahmad had filed a habeas corpus petition before the court submitting that his relatives worked for landlord Malik Iqbal as a bonded labour for years. He alleged that the landlord detained the labourers. He requested the court to get the detainees recovered from the illegal detention of the landlord and set them free.
