A middle-aged man lost his life due to electric shock at Chembur following the first major showers this year on Tuesday.

A middle-aged man lost his life due to electric shock at Chembur following the first major showers this year on Tuesday. There were also reports of water-logging and tree falling in several areas across the city.

In 24 hours, the Colaba and Santa Cruz weather stations reported 110.4 mm and 107.3 mm of rainfall respectively. There will be intermittent rain showers in the next 24 hours in the city, said weather officials.

According to civic officials, at Rahul Nagar slums near Sion-Trombay Road in Chembur, Janarpa Ghatkar (45) suffered injuries due to electric shock. When admitted in Sion Hospital, the doctors declared him brought dead.

At Dindoshi, one person was injured due to the landslide, which happened at Aman Chawl, Rajiv Gandhi Nagar at 7.10 am. Azad Pathan Shaikh (30) has been seriously injured in the incident and has been admitted to the Surgical ICU in the Shatabdi Hospital.

The BMC received water-logging complaints from eight spots in the city. In island city, water-logging took place at Masjid, Bapu Khote Street and Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan, whereas in Eastern Suburbs areas like Ambedkar Nagar, Pant Nagar, Kurla Terminus went under water due to heavy showers. In Western suburbs, two places at Oberoi Mall, Western Express Highway and Vakola bridge witnessed water-logging.

In addition to this, five incidents of house collapse were reported in the city, three at island city and one each in western and eastern suburbs. At Kalbadevi, the construction near Nilkamal Hotel, Vasantwadi, caved in, trapping one Hiralal Shah in the house. He was rescued by the fire brigade and admitted to the GT Hospital. His condition is said to be stable.

Despite the BMC’s claims that trees were properly trimmed before the monsoon, 62 tree falling cases were reported in the city. The island city topped the list with 28 cases, followed by eastern suburbs with 18 and western suburbs with 16 cases respectively.

There were also 20 incidents of short circuits, 17 in island city and three in eastern suburbs. There were no injuries.
