Jaipur: Forest department is set to plant 25 lakh saplings in public areas under Mukhyamantri Jal Swavlamban Abhiyan (MJSA) apart from its targeted 61,000 hectare under afforestation during monsoon.
According to the officials, for the first time, department is moving away from its traditional practice of plantation only in forest areas. "Under MJSA, where water retention structures are being created, we will do plantation around those structures.
The saplings will be taken care of for five years. The exercise will be carried out in all the 3,500 selected villages," said an official from the forest department. He added, "Before monsoon, we are aiming to complete the plantation process so that full benefit of monsoon can be taken."
