Bikers of the city celebrated the World Motorcycle Day here on Tuesday by taking out an 18-km rally across the city and holding a safety awareness meet on the Beach Road.

The 60-odd bikers all riding the macho Royal Enfield motorbikes from the Vizeroys Royal Enfield club, was led by HRD Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao and ace biker Bharadwaj Dayala, who toured over 16 countries on bikes.

World Motorcycle Day is observed across the world by people who have passion for bikes on June 21, as it is considered to be the longest day of the year or known as Solstice.

Safety aspect

Karthik Reddy of Vizeroys said this year the theme was on safety. “We all ride bikes but safety should come first and this aspect is ignored by most bikers,” he said at the awareness meet.

The bikers specifically spoke on safety gear and wearing of helmet, to shun drunken driving and talking over cell phone while driving. This apart they spoke about acquiring a valid licence and following of pollution norms.

A naval officer brought his young son with full safety gear to create awareness on safety.

According to bikers Suman, Chaitanya and Sandeep, long distance bike rides is the best distressing tool. “But safety and rules should be followed,” he added.
