Thousands take part in Yoga event

Over 800 participate in event at Police Parade Grounds in Kalaburagi

Thousands of people participated in the International Day of Yoga celebrations in Kalaburagi district on Tuesday. The programmes were held in all taluk headquarters and important towns and cities.

More than 800 people, including school students and senior officials, participated in the yoga programme at the Police Parade Grounds in Kalaburagi. Prominent among those who participated were Deputy Commissioner Vipul Bansal, Additional Deputy Commissioner Govind Reddy, Inspector-General of Police (North Eastern Range) B. Shivakumar, Superintendent of Police N. Shashikumar and Zilla Panchayat Vice-President Shobha S. Sirasagi.

The Yoga Day organised by the district administration and Department of AYUSH received a good response from students from different schools and colleges and the general public. Apart from them, a large number of police personnel participated in the session that lasted about one hour.

Yoga teacher Girish Patil helped the participants perform 21 different types of asanas, including meditation and Pranayama (breathing exercise). Sudhakar Kulageri, a yoga teacher, spoke briefly about the benefits of practising yoga for the improvement of general health and concentration.

In another event hosted by Patanjali Yoga Samiti, in association with Sharnbasveshwar Residential Public School, Appa Public School and Doddappa Appa Independent PU College of Science, on the Sharnbasaveshwar College Campus Grounds, more than 3,000 school and college students participated. The participants were, among others, taught Tadasana (Palm tree posture), Vrkshasana (Tree posture), Pada-Hastasana (Hands-to-feet posture), Ardhachakrasana (The half-wheel posture), Trikonasana (Triangle posture).
