18 schools in Nagapattinam ordered to be closed

They functioned without permission

Eighteen nursery and primary schools functioning in Nagapattinam district without due sanctions have been ordered closed with immediate effect.

In the same breath, Collector S. Palanisamy has cautioned parents against admitting their wards in institutions that were functioning without permission.

While 16 nursery and elementary schools were functioning without renewing their preliminary sanctions, two schools did not possess even preliminary permissions.

Despite notice and reminders from the District Elementary Education Office, the schools neither did reply to the notice nor sent proposals for sanction within the allotted time.

Following that, the District Nursery and Elementary Schools Committee decided to order closure of the errant schools.

All schools must send in their proposal for due permission to the officers concerned within three months of the commencement of the academic sessions for the year.

The preliminary sanctions for the 16 schools that had obtained them ended on May 31 last.

Operating the school without obtaining due sanctions was against the rules, Mr. Palanisamy said. At the same time, he called upon the parents to admit their wards only in recognised schools and avoid those that did not possess due recognition.
