Yoga training and awareness programmes were held at various places in Dindigul and Theni districts on Tuesday on the occasion of the International Day of Yoga.

Practising yoga daily would scale down mental pressure, wipe out dullness of mind and improve immunity level, said Collector N. Venkatachalam, while inaugurating a yoga training programme at District Sports Complex in the morning.

The UN had declared June 21 as International Day of Yoga. Simple yoga exercises were taught to the participants. The students trained here should, in turn, train their parents, relatives and neighbours, he added.

Hundreds of school and college students took part in the yoga training session.

In Dindigul, about 400 cadets of 14 TN NCC Battalion practised yoga at G.T.N. Arts College. Commanding Officer Aravind Kousish and G.T.N. Arts College (Self-finance) Principal U. Natarajan made the arrangements. Various ‘asanas’ were taught to students.

Yoga training programme was organised at the District Sports Complex too. Students and members of various organisations took part in it. Students of government schools assembled on Sri Kottai Mariamman Temple ground and practised yoga.

Students, teachers and NCC cadets of Durai Kamalam Government Higher Secondary School in Natham took part in yoga training programme and learnt ‘surya namaskaram’, ‘pranayamam’ and various ‘asanas’.
