Students take part in large numbers in International Yoga Day observance

Yoga demonstrations, lectures and competitions were organised by schools, colleges, government departments and a host of organisations to observe the second International Yoga Day in a grand manner here on Tuesday.

More than 1,000 people performed yoga as per the protocol of Ministry of AYUSH to commemorate the yoga day programme at the event organised by Coimbatore Unit of Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu and Sri Krishna Institutions. District Revenue Officer D. Christuraj presided over the event. K. Logeshwari of 136.1 Yoga Studio spoke on the importance of yoga and demonstrated asanas.

Expectant mothers in various stages of pregnancy attended the yoga camp conducted by KG Hospital. It was aimed at assisting moms-to-be to acquire mental and physical fitness for ease of delivery. Importance of yoga for pregnant women was elaborated at a meeting as part of the event. Children affected by Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy performed yoga at Kurinji Hospital.

A Upa Yoga programme was organised by the Central Industrial Security Force at Coimbatore International Airport outside the Terminal in association with Isha Yoga Centre and Airport Authority of India. A yoga training camp was organised at the Air Force Administrative College, in which uniformed service personnel and civilians participated with their families.

A programme was organised at Avinashilingam University in connection with the observance. Six hundred NCC cadets of 4 (TN) Battalion NCC performed yoga at Kalaignar Institute of Technology. A talk was given to students of Rathinam College of Arts and Science by Art of Living foundation. Kumaraguru College of Technology organised a mass ‘Yoga Sangamam’ for its students and staff, and an essay writing and yoga competitions were held for students.

National Yoga Conclave – 2016 was organised by PSG College of Arts and Science, Yoga Forum and World Community Service Centre (Coimbatore Zone) on Relevance of Yoga in Contemporary Life Style. Nearly 120 students from the Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Sulur, exhibited their yoga skills at the event organised by the Directorate of Field Publicity and GEM Trust.

More than 600 persons participated in the yoga day observance at the HADP Open Air Stadium in Udhagamandalam. More than 1,000 trainees performed yoga at the Central Training College of Central Reserve Police Force. Sankara College of Science and Commerce organised International Yoga Day celebrations on its campus. The urban district unit of Hindu Munnani organised a yoga session at the Coimbatore Corporation school on Alagappa Chettiar Street in Tatabad.

Tirupur

Reiterating the effectiveness of yoga in shaping the body and mind of a person, Union Minister of State for Road Transport, Highways, and Shipping Pon Radhakrishnan took part in the Tirupur Yoga Fest-2016 held at Nanjappa Corporation Boys Higher Secondary School grounds here on Tuesday.

Mr. Radhakrishnan was among the large number of people from different segments of society who performed ‘asanas’ under the tutelage of experts.

The event was jointly organised by Vivekananda Sewa Kendra, Confederation of Indian Industry, Young Indians (youth wing of CII), Tirupur Thozhil Pathukappu Kuzhu, NIFT-TEA Knitwear Institute and a few other bodies. Prominent persons who attended the event include Kongunadu Munnetra Kazhagam president S. Ramasamy, Tirupur Exporters Association vice-president E. Palanisami, CII’s convener of Task Force on textiles Raja M. Shanmugam and Tirupur Thozhil Pathukappu Kuzhu coordinator T. R. Vijayakumar. Housewives and children also attended the yoga session.

Sainik School, Amaravathinagar, celebrated the International Yoga Day with grandeur on its premises. As many as 635 cadets took part in the special yoga session held under the supervision of Group Captain T. N. Sridhar, principal of Sainik School.
