Kanpur: Four people, including three children, were killed in storm in Kanpur Dehat district on Monday night.
Three children of a family were buried alive while five others, including their parents and other siblings suffered critical wounds when their house collapsed due to heavy rainfall in Ambarpur village in Rura.
Shiv Narain, his wife Kiran along with their six children were asleep when the incident occurred.
Shiv Naraian's daughter Nisha (13) and sons Deepak (10) and Deep Chandra (5) died while Arjun (8) and daughters Choti (7) and Sapna (3) were injured and shifted to hospital, the police said.
The neighbours said that because of heavy rainfall, the mud structure collapsed. Three children died on the spot and five others were injured and were rushed to nearby district hospital, where the doctors stated the condition of children to be critical.
A pall of gloom descended on the village. The rescue operation was launched by the villagers, who alerted the police control room and Ambulance service 108.
The district authorities assured the bereaved family that compensation would be given.
Elsewhere, a 70-year-old man was killed after being struck by lightning in Baraijhal village Rasoolabad. Gangaram, who sustained serious burns died on the spot.
In another incident, 28-year-old Amit of Shastrinagar in Rura was seriously injured while trying to escape from lightning and rain.
