RD Recap: New Players at Playbook; a New EIC for Vogue Mexico

A trio of young reporters will replace Mike Allen at Politico's Playbook. Beginning July 11, Anna Palmer, Jake Sherman and Daniel Lippman will head the widely popular and influential Washington-based tips newsletter that frequently sets the tone for the day, or at least the morning. Palmer and Sherman are best known for their work on the scandal that resulted in the resignation of Illinois Representative Aaron Schock, while Lippman has helped Allen with the newsletter for the past two years. Politico brass is hoping that the three new writers will continue the winning formula, as The New York Times reports that Playbook brings in more than $50,000 a week from sponsors like Comcast and BP. "As to whether Palmer and Sherman can succeed in blending their own, adversarial reporting styles with the longtime sensibilities of 'Playbook,' we have no idea," writes Erik Wemple. Allen, who heads off to work on a new project with Jim VandeHei and Roy Schwartz after the elections, will cover the presidential campaign for Politico until then... The New York Times moves Keith Bradsher from Hong Kong to Shanghai, where he'll cover the country's business and economy. Business reporter Nathaniel Popper heads to San Francisco to take on the financial technology beat... John Brecher takes a six-month assignment as executive story editor at the USA Today Network. He previously worked at The Wall Street Journal and Bloomberg, directing coverage on eight Pulitzer Prize-winning projects... Karla Martinez jumps from associate editor to editor in chief of Vogue Mexico. She's worked for Vogue, T: The New York Times Style Magazine, Interview and W, and replaces Kelly Talamas, who's moving to creative director and will be based out of Bogotá, Colombia... Sports Illustrated hires Josh Oshinsky to be supervising producer at SI Video. Lee Feiner and Nolan Thomas both get promoted to producer... And there are changes at Federated Media, Allure and more...
