PONDA: Successfully cracking the murder mystery of Akhtar Saifi Ali, a welder at a steel factory in Marcaim industrial estate within a week, Ponda police arrested one of Ali’s helpers, Ramanand Budhiram Saha, 22, for committing the crime.
Confessing to the crime, the accused revealed he murdered Ali for money. Ali, 30, a native of Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh, was working as a welder at a steel factory and was found dead in a room within the factory premises on Thursday, June 16.
After being registered as a case of murder, the police began interrogating co-workers of the accused and the factory security guard, too.

“While interrogating the workers, we found discrepancy in statements of the helper, leading us to quiz him thoroughly. He later confessed to the crime,” Ponda deputy superintendent of police (DySP) Sunita Sawant said.
Saha, a native of Uttar Pradesh’s Devaria district was working as a helper with Ali for the last three months. He was expected to return home at the end of the month to attend his sister’s marriage that was scheduled for July 8.
“In his confession, Saha revealed that he needed to carry home more money than usual, not only to support his family but also to spend on his sister’s wedding. Upon realizing that Ali had recently received his salary, Saha planned to kill him,” Sawant said.
The Ponda DySP added that the accused claimed to have killed Ali on June 15 after lunch and fled after stealing his money.

‘Hindi movie inspired accused’
A forensics team, which conducted the autopsy of Ali’s body confirmed that the man was strangulated. “The accused has revealed that he had learned of a way to kill a person from a Hindi movie,” Ponda DySP Sunita Sawant said
