KTCL to get RFID technology

PANAJI: In keeping with the tech-savvy times, Kadamba transport corporation limited (KTCL) will soon be introducing the Radio-frequency identification (RFID) systems.
KTCL’s drivers and conductors will now be swiping cards instead of manually logging in their daily entries. This intelligent transportation system will also enable to collect, process, and transmit traffic data to the corporation, sans the erstwhile method.
“This computerized system is the mark of innovative technology, something we should go for. RFID cards will ensure less instances of negligence and manipulation,” said the officer on special duty (traffic), KTCL, SL Ghate.
He said that drivers who would sometimes arrive late but log in an earlier time would no longer be able to mess around thanks to the computerized system. Besides speeding things up, the use of RFID cards will also put an end to wastage of stationery.
While the system will initially be implemented at the KTCL bus stand in Panaji, it will gradually be implemented at other bus stands in Goa.
For beginners, an electronic data capture machine on which the RFID cards are to be swiped has already been installed at the Panaji depot.
“According to the bus driver/conductor’s badge number and the bus designated to them, the card will be issued. The system will help us track whether or not a bus has reached the bus stand on time, whether the trip has been completed as per schedule. This also saves our time as the data is generated automatically,” said assistant traffic superintendent, KTCL, Ajitrao Desai.
Passengers availing of the monthly pass will also be given RFID cards. The amount (fees) from the previous card will be reinstated after the RFID card is renewed. Commuters will continue to have the same facilities of pay-per-trip.
