JJ Abrams to make show on MJ’s last days
JJ Abrams, the man behind Star Wars: The Force Awakens and the Star Trek reboot is all set to produce a show on the late pop icon Michael Jackson’s final days. Based on author Travis Smiley’s upcoming book Before You Judge Me: The Triumph and Tragedy of Michael Jackson’s Last Days, the show is yet to be acquired by a network.

Before You Judge Me, which is due out June 21, centers around “Jackson’s campaign to recharge his career” and centres around the “hiring and firing managers and advisors, turning to and away from family members, fighting depression and drug dependency” before his sudden passing at the age of 50.

While the book was tapped as fodder for some kind of adaptation long before it was ready for publishing, Abrams’ involvement has come as a mild surprise to many given that it’s such a huge departure from his other recent work. Leaving his minor film work aside, Abrams has his hands full producing the alternate history show, 11.22.63, Cameron Crowe’s Roadies, and the long-gestating blockbuster drama Westworld.

Jackson died in 2009 — weeks before he was to embark on his comeback tour — in a drug-induced death was later ruled a homicide. The physician who administered the fatal dose,Conrad Murray, was convicted of involuntary manslaughter. —Agencies
