Hyderabad: Development of Vemulawada temple town on the lines of Tirumala gathered momentum on Tuesday with architectural plans for the temple's development being finalised by the state government. The plans will be presented to chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao for approval. The government has proposed a Rs 410-crore plan to develop the temple and its surroundings in the next few years.

Endowments minister A Indrakaran Reddy held a review meeting on the temple's development with endowment secretary Shiva Shankar, Vemulawada MLA C H Ramesh, advisor Ramana Chary, Vemulawada temple development authority VC Purushottam Reddy on Tuesday. The architects showed models of various development works proposed in and around the temple.
The minister said that the entire area should be developed not only as a spiritual place but also as a pilgrim centre to attract devotees from across the globe. Indrakaran Reddy asked the Sthapathi Valli Nayagam to ensure that constructions and renovations are as per Agama Sastra. The government proposed construction of a second Prakaram to four sides of the temple, Nithya Kalyana Mandapam that can seat 1,000 people, Kalyana Katta, Addala Mandapam, a queue complex and hard granite flooring on the premises at a cost of Rs 25 crore. It was also proposed to renovate Dharmagudam, construction of retaining wall by widening the tank bund to 150 ft and formation of a ring road and religious park along Shikam.
The minister directed officials to provide amenities to pilgrims like tourism information centres, waiting halls, drinking water, toilets and boating facilities at Gudi Chervu. The officials said a choultry with 500 rooms would be constructed at the new bus stand costing about Rs 50 crore and another with 150 rooms at Shivapuram.
