Ahead of the reshuffle in the Congress, the party headquarters at 24, Akbar Road is witnessing a hierarchical shift.

Younger leaders are vacating their prized frontline rooms in the party office for veterans who, after serving in the UPA government have been given organisational responsibilities.

There are 10 big rooms in the AICC – three inside the building, six frontline rooms and one at the rear.

The three inside rooms are occupied by Congress president Sonia Gandhi, her deputy Rahul and treasurer Motilal Vora.

The six frontline rooms have offices of Digvijaya Singh, Mukul Wasnik, Janardan Dwivedi, Ambika Soni, Madhusudan Mistry and Randeep Singh Surjewala. The rear room was occupied by B K Hariprasad.

AICC general secretary Mukul Wasnik, who occupied a spacious room next to the portico of the British era bungalow that serves as the party office, has made way for veteran Ghulam Nabi Azad.

Surjewala, in-charge of the AICC Communications Department, has decided to give up his front room to another veteran Kamal Nath, who was appointed AICC general secretary.

Surjewala will move to a room previously occupied by AICC general secretary Shakeel Ahmed, who was dropped from the post.
