The 98,000 crore project for a bullet train between Mumbai and Ahmedabad has found itself clear of a major hurdle. The Maharashtra government on Monday withdrew its objection to provide land at the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) in Mumbai to build an underground station.

Suresh Prabhu-led Indian Railway requires 0.9 hectares of BKC land for access to underground station.

However, the Maharashtra state government had earlier denied Railway ministry the land saying that giving it away would hamper the state’s project –the Mumbai International Financial Services Centre, located in BKC complex and that there could be a loss in revenue of around Rs 10,000 crore.

Nevertheless, there appears to have been some settlement on commonground as a senior state government functionary told IndianExpress, “A revised plan for the underground station was recently submitted to the state. This seems viable.”

According to sources, the State government might in turn as for major concessions in building its showpiece project-the financial centre.

Although the land in not within the criteria of special economic zone (SEZ), state government is expecting the centre to relax norms.
