AHMEDABAD: The Indian Iris, a policy research and consulting startup that focuses on analysing and simplifying government policies and schemes, has raised an undisclosed amount as seed fund from Ahmedabad-based investment firm Timbru Ventures.
The startup was founded last year by alumni of IIT Roorkee, IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Bangalore and IIIT Bangalore along with support from the Centre for Innovation Incubation and Entrepreneurship (CIIE) at IIM Ahmedabad.

It has an open platform that provides all policies and schemes of the central and state governments in simple language so that farmers, small and medium enterprises, traders, businessmen, women and others can avail themselves of its benefits.

The company provides free information but aims to charge a fee for support services that the individuals or businesses may require. It plans to offer expert management and project consulting to successfully set up and run projects.

“We shall cover both welfare and business policies and schemes. We aim to build a policy and project consulting layer to generate revenues,” said Narayan Singh Rao, co-founder of The Indian Iris.

Timbru Ventures’ managing director Narayan DhulSingh said that the firm invested in The Indian Iris mainly due to its promising team and because it is attempting to solve a huge problem which impacts a large majority of the population in the country.

At present, the portal sees over 30,000 unique visitors with 145,000 page views per month. The Indian Iris has developed an android application, ‘Join R’, to make the portal more accessible.
