Place of worship in Oman: Masjid Al Hamza Bin Abdul Mutalib

Ramadan is a great time to take the opportunity to go pray in beautiful houses of worship that you might not otherwise get to see. Whether for Taraweeh prayers or Dhuhr, pay a visit to one of Muscat’s architectural monuments of faith.

{ Masjid Al Hamza Bin Abdul Mutalib }

Hamza Bin Abdul Mutalib Mosque is an old mosque located in Jibroo, near Hai Al Mina in Muttrah. It was named after the companion and paternal uncle of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Its exterior, along with the adjacent detached stores, are covered in a textured stucco paint much like the facades of old fortresses in Oman. The mosque sports a bright blue, flower-shaped dome that is dotted with gold Islamic patterns. Despite the overall antique look of the exterior, there are some surprising modern touches, like sharp grey window grills accented with black and gold.
