Karun Chandhok Official Driver For Williams F1 Heritage Division
Former Indian Formula 1 driver, Karun Chandhok has been confirmed as the official driver for its Heritage division. Chandhok will test and showcase the Formula 1 cars of Williams, which covers from 1977 to recently retired models.
Karun, a veteran of 11 Grand Prix starts in the history of Formula 1 will make his debut for the Heritage division at the UK's 2016 Goodwood Festival of Speed to be held from June 23 to 26, 2016.
He will drive the FW08C from 1983 and an FW13B from 1990 of the Williams F1 cars. "Williams is such an iconic British team, steeped in racing history so it's a real honour to be involved in its Heritage programme," said Chandhok. "So many of the Williams Heritage cars are pieces of racing history with great stories to tell, so to be offered the chance to get up close and personal and drive them - sometimes being the first person to do so in decades - is an incredible opportunity."
Williams Heritage was started to showcase the history of the Williams in Formula 1 racing and the cars that have won accolades in the racing industry. The division main agenda is to showcase the classic cars to fans at selected events throughout the year, also, it identifies and prepares for sale.
"With a wealth of experience in a wide range of championships, including Formula One, GT, LMP1 and Formula E, Karun was the ideal candidate to be our Heritage driver," commented Jonathan Williams, Williams Heritage Director. "What's more, he has a real passion for motorsport history and is a font of knowledge when it comes to Formula One."
