NMC gets contempt of court notice

NMC gets contempt of court notice
Nashik: Rajesh Pandit, the petitioner in the river pollution case, on Monday sent a contempt notice to the municipal commissioner for non-compliance of the Bombay high court's orders.
The petitioner said he would be filing a contempt petition against the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) within 15 days in case of non-compliance.
Referring to the general body resolution no.
778 dated December 7 and the letter from sewage department on April 18, Pandit said various orders are being issued by the high court (HC) from time to time.
"Some of the most important issues are upgrading the existing sewage treatment plants (STPs). While giving consent to operate the existing STPs, the MPCB imposed the condition that the biological oxygen demand levels of the treated sewage discharged into the river should be less than 10 mg/litre," Pandit said.
"We gave two reminder letters to the NMC about the non-compliance. The civic body had funds to the tune of Rs 1,058 cr during the Kumbh Mela and Rs 450 cr was used for the construction of roads. The NMC has funds for road works but not for STPs," he added.
