Hawks beat Keshi’s friends, as Togo celebrates late Super Eagles’ coach
The Municipal Stadium, Lome, wore a sombre look on Sunday when football lovers in Togo trooped out to the venue to remember one of the greatest coaches in the West African country’s football, Stephen Keshi.
The event, which attracted current and retired international footballers, also featured a football game in honour of the fallen coach, who qualified Togo for its only appearance at the FIFA World Cup.
Among the participants at the event were Emmanuel Adebayor, who led a team tagged Keshi’s Friends against the Togo national team, Eperviers (Hawks). The game ended 6-2 in favour of the national team, at the end of which all the players and sports officials gathered to pay tribute to Keshi.
Adebayo and Olufade Adekanmi scored the goals for Team Keshi, while the Hawks goals came from the boots of Placca (two goals), Hiagbe, Arafat (two goals) and Koutobi.
Tagged #HommageKeshi, the event also brought together all the players, who featured for Togo during Keshi’s first reign as Hawks manager from 2014 to 2016.
