Ahmedabad : BJP MP from Ahmedabad (East), Paresh Rawal, held a meeting with top officials of city airport including the airport director on Monday morning and raised questions about lack of facilities at the airport. Rawal pointed out the general lack of cleanliness, stinky toilets, menace of cab drivers, lack of baggage scanning machines and other issues to the top officials of Airports Authority of India (AAI).
He was reportedly perturbed that issues like that of lack of scanner machines remained unresolved, even after five months of his last visit.
All members of Airport Advisory Committee (AAC) were present at the meeting held inside the airport premises. Top officials from CISF, Customs, Bureau of Immigration and local police were also present. This was the second such meeting held by Rawal this year, after the one held in last week of January.
"We will urge both state and Union government to solve the issues faced in the airport. In case of cleanliness at airport and toilets, the work contract had expired. New contract will soon be issued and it is likely that this will be resolved in two months' time," said Rawal.
AAI officials cited lack of manpower and tendering process as the reasons for delay in solving issues at the airport. During the meeting, AAI officials sought a month's time to resolve the issues. To ensure action, Rawal will chair another meeting in a month's time to check the progress.
Rawal added, "The airport is short of staff. Officials have made some progress in solving the issues raised in the last meeting. This time, I will personally follow up on the progress."
